UKIP denounce Labour plans to give away sovereignty

UKIP candidate for Mid Ulster Alan Day has denounced plans by pro EU members of the Labour party to `reform the EU`

Alan stated “So the Deputy leader of Labour has let the cat out of the bag. He and his cohorts in their letter to the Guardian say that British sovereignty is gone and call for an EU trans-national economic & political union.”

UKIP have been warning about the true nature of the EU for decades. Only by voting to leave the undemocratic EU can we take back control of our country.”

UKIP support for science and education

UKIP support for science and education

UKIP candidate for Mid Ulster has outlined his commitments to science and education.

Alan stated “The Institute Of Physics in Ireland is eager to work with MLAs in the new assembly to help champion science and raise awareness of the importance of physics to Northern Ireland. As someone involved in the IT industry I welcome their manifesto and commend it wholeheartedly. STEM subjects are of vital importance and UKIP are proposing the removal of tuition fees for students taking approved degrees in Science, Medicine, Technology, Engineering and Maths on the condition that they work in their discipline and pay tax in the UK for five years after completion of their degrees.

“It is unacceptable that only 14% of registered teachers have any kind of
science or maths degree and that two thirds of all physics teachers in Northern Ireland are employed in grammar schools”

Nor is it acceptable that many non-selective schools do not offer Physics at A Level”

As such I am fully committed to their aims below.

– Review the primary curriculum and explore ways to re-introduce a separate science subject into primary schools

– Conduct a review to identify and tackle the barriers to physics becoming a realistic option to pursue at A-level for all students

– Invest in opportunities to increase the supply of STEM trained teachers, particularly physics teachers, including offering new funding to train and attract new teachers in Northern Ireland

– Commit to providing funding to close the gap between universities in Northern Ireland and England

– Work with industry to review the manufacturing base in Northern Ireland and identify opportunities for growth in physics-based industries

– Look to implement the recommendation from the 2009 Review of STEM to appoint a national STEM adviser and ensure that they have the ear of the Northern Ireland Executive.

Obama guided by large US corporate interests

UKIP candidate for Mid-Ulster says any intervention by the US President is not for the benefit of UK citizens

Alan Day stated “President Obama is widely tipped to voice a pro EU stance on his visit to the UK this week. Whilst the US President is entitled to his opinion, it is clear the President has US interests at heart rather than liberty and democracy.

Would the US even contemplate joining a supranational organisation with a single currency, flag, courts, open borders and legal entities? Absolutely not. Americans’ instinctively refuse to recognize any international organization, law or treaty that claims any authority over US Citizens above the U.S. Constitution. The US won’t even recognise the international convention on the law of the seas or the International Criminal Court. In the US system, sovereignty rests with the people and the U.S. government does not have a right to transfer sovereignty to any other organization. This principle has been usurped in the UK and we have been ceding sovereignty to “Europe” since the establishment of the European Coal and Steel Community in 1952 on the road to the stated objective of `ever closer union`.

International trade and other free trade areas like NAFTA etc do not erode national sovereignty and democracy. Only the EU does this.

Parliament and the common law are the foundations of our freedoms – and prosperity. It should be noted that the big businesses and the likes of the CBI lining up in the Pro EU camp are largely the same organisations that said we were doomed if we did not scrap the pound and join the euro.”
